Educational TV

I love Japanese TV. And I especially enjoy the most educational aspect that TV has to offer - no, it isn't cooking programs, which are high up on the list, but rather gameshows. They really bring out the best in the human spirit.

Here is one that was just on recently. Four teams (actors, sportsmen, comedians, and general TV girls) compete in a range of trials testing mind and body, but in a ingeniuosly goofy way.

They get points for every team member that doesn't fall off the stack of tyres. They give you a slow-motion replay, and show you all the different camera angles.

But the best bit is when they zoom in to catch their expressions just before impact.

That was the actor team. Half of them fell off. The comedian team was the worst - they all fell off. This is the sports team.

Again, a brilliant pre-action shot:

Now, since the actors and the sportsmen were tied, the decider was by single man against the ball. Now this is anticipation:

Ouch.

The sportsman (the huge basketball player above) managed to stand down the ball.

The next challenge was the Kutsutobashi (shoe-flying), as traditionally played by kids in Japan:

As you can guess, it is who can kick their shoe off the furthest while swinging on the swing.

The next one was very difficult. All teams failed the first time around so they needed to replay. This is a very well known comedian looking a little rediculous:

The aim is to pass a balloon between five team members by using hairdriers.

Those who are closed-minded enough to suggest that the girl's team would be good at this should note that they were actually not very good at all.
